My Role

My Role

In the summer of 2021, I worked as a UIUX designer at Tecent CDC group to develop the largest online donation platform for 99 Giving Day. The main idea of the project is to use digitization to help people in need across China, and encourage more people to participate in the event. On the Tencent charity platform, users can get small red flowers through acts of public welfare, such as donating money, donating steps and answering questions.

📑 Design Objective

  • Created an Everyday easy Q&A function to build users' behavior on logging in to the platform and interacting with related donation projects.

  • Combined with the 99 Giving Days countdown, use daily interaction to strengthen the user's memory and expectation of the upcoming event.

  • Enhance exposure by encouraging users to share results with the community.

💬 Design Solution

  • Highlighting the question; optimization hierarchy to Increase Conversions; weaken the concept of calendar.

  • Emotional Design; let the little flower character interact with users by giving the questions and announcing the answers.

  • Replacing wrong or right answers status into gain little red flowers to drive more engagement, and increase user stickiness.

The Challenge

The Challenge

The most challenging part of this task is designing the user statuses. When receiving the design handoff from the UX designer, I was not too sure how to visualize the four different user statuses. We need to make sure the content of the statuses is clearly shown, and they need to be visually different.

Design Iteration

Design Iteration

What was the problem?

The process is very frustrating. As shown on the left side, I tried many different iterations with the team, but the outcomes were not very satisfying.

The problem is there are too many statuses happening in a small section. It will confuse the user when putting too many different elements in. The best solution is narrow it down into three statuses based on the iterations.

What did I do?

  • Discuss the issue with my mentor to see if there is a better way to solve the problem.

  • Set up a meeting with the UX designer and product manager. Provide a possible solution.

  • Combing the previous and upcoming Q&A into one status.

  • Replace the date; instead of having 02/12, use weekdays to save space.

  • Keep the little red flower elements.

The importance of group work and communication

One of the most common challenges we will face as UI designers are discovering some problems during the visual design process. Therefore, it is very important to communicate during the process. A UI designer is not only visualizing the interface that UX designers hand over to you, but also needs to consider the logic and understanding of the product. When discovering some problems during the process, don't hesitate to talk to the mentor or UX designer to seek a better solution. Communication is the key during group work. It can improve efficiency at work. That's what I learned from the task.
